  1. Are you sure you have clicked in the chat box properly? I set up letter Q to activate my chat box (in the controls menu) So i press that letter and all other controls stop working as the chat box typing part is activated, I can type any letters i want and they become the message i go on to send and don't affect anything in the cab until i click back in the cab or press escape.. i often send messages asking 'how long will i be held at this red signal?' which has a few 'E's' in it, and i've not once stood up from my seat ...... Ot a bit, but It would be nice to auto exit the chat box after pressing enter to send the message, i can always press the Q key again if i need to send a 2 line message etc. I did notice that the shp/cuzak reset no longer works when pressed whilst typing, so i need to escape from the message to reset it then go back to typing if i'm moving (i have a mic, but hate speaking, text based comms is 90% of how i communicate in every day life.
  2. What about in 2018? how often did the EP07's run then? I only drive the trains in SimRail, but i'd have thought that if every train on the line ran at 160 or 200 kph it'd get pretty boring for the dispatchers, surely some of the fun is slotting in the slower running trains between the fast ones, trying to jiggle things so as not to slow the faster trains down too much, but also not delaying the slower trains either,
  3. i'd love to see more of the classic 'old skool' trains in SimRail. most of the train driving games / simulators based on european operations seem to concentrate a lot on the modern computer controlled trains, i know one train game maker says they do this because that's the best way to make money, they are trying to get the younger people playing their train driving game, and they apparently won't do that if the trains available are ones that stopped operations before they were born (they also say that 90 minutes is the absolute max time these people will play for before getting bored, hence why all their routes are shorter than this) 😞 I know SimRail is based on the Polish railways in 2018, where the EP/EU07 was still 'king' as the most reliable loco on the system, but i'd love to see some more of these kinds of older trains, the ones that are dying out or simply not used on the main line anymore, So whilst you may not get to ride them in real life outside of a museum line, in the simulator you can do better than just see them in action, you get to drive them for ~300km taking almost 4 hours.
  4. Once we get the SDK's released, i imagine this will be one of the first things made with them, There's already the TCP port stuff in the system, "VD_Remote=tcp://127.0.0.1:51528" so i imagine we just need to know what to send to SimRail over the TCP and how to read the data it returns, then we could do like TS-MFD has done for train simulator classic..... have multiple monitors, or android tablets or those i-thingies (which handilly have the touch screen bits included) connected to the main computer via wifi or usb, and display on them the in cab screens / gauges.
  5. Pfffft, the EU/EP07 is the train i have driven for about 95% of my time on SimRail, done over 4000 Km in it, it's bloody amazing. It's an amazing train where you need to think about operating it, not just push a lever and let the computer do the rest.
  6. i'm really not a fan of these 'camera lens effects' Like having the sun ahead of you and you get that lens flare effect that is from the light bouncing back and forth between the multiple pieces of glass that make up the lens, or the star burst thing, or the way everything goes black and white then really bright before settling down to the normal image when you exit a tunnel.... Those are all things that you see when viewing the image from a camera, but in a train driving simulator we are supposed to be driving the train as a person with Mk1 eyeballs, which do not have these issues (ok some have the star burst thing at night) On some other train driving 'games' you can turn these effects off in the .ini files, not sure if this is possible in SimRail?
  7. I've noticed and wondered this too, I guess IRL the driver would have the printed timetable sheet to look at, tho i imagine it does not give the distances between the signals? So is it just down to route knowledge? or is there a system to work out that passing a certain type of signal means the next one will be 1Km away, and another signal means the next will ne 2Km away etc?
  8. maybe the pendulino can drive in level 2? Or the signs are for other trains that use the route that we don't have access to in SimRail perhaps.
  9. i've figured it out, i do drive differently.... whenever i get ready to brake, i tap the apply key to put the brake handle into the 'initial' position, then i press and hold down the apply key to move the lever around to the pressure reduction i need to slow down. If i do not put the brake lever into the 'initial' position first, pressing and holding the apply key does indeed rapidly move the lever around into emergency position before you have time to react. So it is just as you said, the way i drive / handle the brakes means i never noticed this behaviour.
  10. people think they are a reflection of the cariages tail lights that face the loco, as they seem to light up a bit at night too, But the reflection in the cab glass is tied to your direction on the map, switch to the outside camera and get the angle right looking through the windscreen, the side windows in the cab glow fully red.
  11. not sure what you mean by the upper detents, The brake lever in the EU07 has an off detent, a fill detent, a run detnet, then it's smooth all the way to the full service detent... then re-application and finally emergency detents. I regularly hold the key down for a second to move the lever around to about 3/4 to slow down fast at a station, then when the train is down to about 10kph, i press the key to snap the lever to the 'run' position, and the brakes will be releasing but still on enough to stop the train without a jolt... then apply the brake lever again (that's how most real drivers do it in the cab view videos i watch) Now occasionally if i repeatedly tap the keys to adjust the lever position it will sometimes move around seemingly on it's own, right to emergency if i don't tap the release key, However, i just noticed this is in single player part of the forum, and i drive in multiplayer, so i may well be talking out my arse (happens a lot) and the lever in the EU/EP07 in single player acts differently to how it does in multiplayer.
  12. i've had no issues with the EU07's brake lever, and i've been almost exclusively driving that train, got more than 4k miles racked up in it. If you keep tapping the apply key it will go to emergency position, but hold the apply key down and it'll gently move round to the detent, and then into emergency if you keep the key held down.
  13. i was told in a past post about EBuLa's that there is a basic version in use, called ENTE or Aksel. Bbut they are not fitted to the trains we have in SimRail atm.
  14. without a screen shot, we would all be guessing. i use a gaming laptop with a RTX3070Ti gpu, and the graphics are pretty stunning to me.
  15. A great little feature of SimRail are the flies / bugs that splat on the windscreen as you drive, needing the wipers and washers to clear them away... it's one more little detail that adds to the realism. But i notice that (in the EU07 at least) when it's raining and you have the wipers on, the bugs do not get cleared, you still need to use the windscreen washers. Is there a way to add to the code that when the windscreen is wet from rain, the bugs should be cleared with the wipers and not need the washers to be used?
  16. I wonder if having a set list of 'basic' commands that are applicable to every train, assigned via the controls menu as it is now, which keeps things simple for those drivers who just want to drive and don't mind using the mouse and keyboard together ... i.e. the keys for power increase / decrease, brake lever increase / decrease, wipers etc, Then have a set of extra functions that are set up by editing a text file, for those who want to assign a key to every switch and lever in the cab, even if it has no real use (like the stove switch in the EU07) The first one i would assign would be the windscreen washer button. Something like we already have with the 'Buttons.conf' file, which has a few items not seen in the menu (that i don't think do anything) : TEST=T, TEST2=Y, shp=LeftAlt, buttonMove=LeftControl But either with a long list of every single user operable control, or the ability to add them by typing in the correct control name and then assigning a keyboard key to it.
  17. On the 13th of January 2023 SimRail released as early access, As it says every time you start the simulator up, this is a testing and bug fixing period of upto 6 months, things are deliberately being kept simple during this time to help bug find. Hence the timetables are basic and repeat every 4 hours or so, a lot of features are turned off, we are driving in summer season only and so on. joystick / raildriver control will be added later on, and so will TCP outputs for connecting up things like arduino's, STM boards and so on, the TCP stuff is already present if you look in the SimRail files, it's just not activated yet. and asking for them just 3 weeks after early access release by posting 'disappointed' threads isn't exactly helping things, the dev's are not going to drop everything and work on advanced features when the base simulator still needs work.
  18. 3 hours is too long? i did a 3 hour 40 minute run last night and would have happily had it carry on for another couple of hours. tsw may think that 90 minutes is the longest run their customers can handle, thankfully SimRail think differently, and are making a simulator instead of a game 🚆
  19. just spotted that, i tend to skim read and miss this kind of thing. For adding more key binds, i presume it needs to be done deep in the working files of the simulator and baked in etc? and it's not as simple as adding the correctly worded text in the 'Buttons.conf' file? I know not everyone wants more key binds, and some get confused with the number we have already to choose from in the controls menu as it is, so maybe having a way to add more key binds manually by editing a file could be a way to do it? for those who want every switch on a key bind.
  20. oh blimey, no, me messing with the files is not condoned by the devs at all, infact i'd imagine it's discouraged at all costs... if i see an issue whilst driving i know not to send in error reports as the error could well be my fault for messing in the files. i just like tinkering... hence i've replaced the wording used on a lot of the pop up messages, instead of being told i'm losing 1 point for speeding, it now says 'slow the fuck down' or the message that says 'STOP, you are leaving the playable area' for me it says 'woah! there be monsters ahead' childish stuff like that.... Bt i know that any errors or issues i see in SimRail could well be my fault now, hence the first thing i will do if i get an error / issue is do a steam file verify to put it all back to standard. But i hated hearing the station announcements in english, as to me that's just not realistic .. maybe in the large interchange stations there'd be multi language announcements, but i expect to hear Polish announcements for the little village stations, not an american accent reading them out. So i swapped the Polish language file for the english one... i recently had a run with RailSim all back to stock, and i get the station announcements at almost every station... but in english... so i'll be putting them back to Polish asap.
  21. I've just discovered that (in the EU07 at least) toggle switches now work... when was this added? This means that pressing the keyboard key for say... instrument lights, it turns that switch on as before, but now pressing the key again turns them off!! nice one SimRail team, this makes a big difference now we don't have to use the mouse to turn a switch off as we did before. The wipers switch also goes back to 'off' position if you press the key for it enough times (so in the EU07, i set up V to be wipers, one press of V puts them on, a second press of V puts them into intermittent mode 1, a third press of V puts them into intermittent mode 2, and a 4th press of V turns them back to off. I wonder if we could get some more key binds sometime? Maybe give us a nice big list of controls we can set keyboard keys to, and let each individual person choose the functions they want to operate with a keyboard key, those they don't set up to a key bind just get left blank in the controls menu and operated by the mouse.
  22. Just had a 3+ hour run from one end of the map to the other, and i heard station announcements at almost every station, I had already copied the Polish text for the announcements into my english announcements folder, so i got a female voice announcing everything in Polish... as that's what i want... i'm driving in Poland, i don't expect to hear english station announcements.
  23. There are some translated versions of the guide posted on another part of the forum: I wonder if it's possible to move / copy the content from another part of the forum to this one? so everything is in one place, as there are Spanish, Chinese and Czech translated versions posted there that would be handy to have on this thread... as it makes sense to have all the user created stuff in one place rather than in the different forum pages (single player, multi player etc) Also, why do i get a long number placed infront of my .zip file, the name on my computer is 'SignsandSignalsinSimRail.zip' other peoples .zip's dont get the numbers added.
  24. I think there may be a problem with the sound engine in SimRail. Skip this waffle to get to the point at the bottom if you want: i've just put a fresh win11 install on my laptop (it's what it came with, i just left most of the lenovo bloatware stuff out) as i'd noticed an issue where the realtek HD audio drivers would go to sleep (something a lot of people have an issue with, on desktops as well as laptops it seems) So the sound card would wake up to play a sound with a pop and miss half the sound in the process (think of the windows 'du dunk' sound when you do something it dosent like, it would only play the '---unk' part as the soundcard was in power save mode and by the time it had woken up the sound was almost over... so i thought this could be why i was missing some switch click sounds and the brake lever sound in the EU07 is all broken up... and possibly why i hear station announcements very rarely. But try as i might, telling the realtek hd sound driver to stay awake all the time by editing the registry settings never worked... so for that issue i found out to let win11 load the normal "Realtek(R) audio" driver, then block windows update from updating it to the 'realtek HD audio' version, this time changing the registry setting to not allow the sound card to go to sleep worked... and i no longer have any delays or pops in windows sounds. But alas, i still get missing sounds in SimRail, Like i can move the power wheel or weak field / shunt lever in the EU07 a notch, and only hear a slight click and then the thunk as the tap changer moves behind me, then next time i'll get the full 'kerlunk' from the lever, and the 'kerlunk' sound from the tap changer. Same with operating a switch, instead of the 'click' i get a 'ik' noise sometimes. and the train brake lever i sometimes get a nice steady hiss of air, other times it's "hiss----- shhhh------isss-----sshhhkkk-----issssss------" (the ---- bits are silence) The point: So i am wondering if the sound cue to play the station announcement is being missed by the sound engine so it doesn't play? if that's possible?
  25. i've noticed this too, i can get about 50 to 60 fps easily on my laptop using the ultra settings in SimRails graphics menu (running auto power mode on the laptop, where the rtx3070Ti is running about 120 watts... it'll run at 155 watts in power mode... but i only get maybe 7 fps more then, and it's like sitting ontop of a fan heater... and in quiet mode it pulls ~70 watts, but i get 17 fps) But lately it just does not seem as smooth as it used to be, it's more like a certain train game i gave up on last year, where i used to get about 20 fps in stations (on the same laptop!)
