EU08 444058 is not powerful enough to pull the train
Gazz292 replied to Sean the Sheep's topic in Issues archive
could be wheel slipping, i'd use just a little bit of power whilst applying sand, and gently increase the power when the train starts to move, again applying sand as needed, there's also an anti slip button that applies the loco brakes a little when pressed which might help a little, but getting a heavy freight train going from standstill is always going to be challenging in real life and in SimRail. The Polish railways have a T sign on some signals that means a freight train is allowed to pass the signal on red at a max of 20km/h, this is because the train would likely not get going again if it stopped there! -
today i swapped the pre update english text in the station announcements file, and i got announcements working again! Unfortunately i don't have the Polish announcements saved from the before the latest update, but it seems that the <break time="0.3s"/> bits are possibly needed to make the announcements work? Below is the english announcements text that got my announcements working again... albeit in english (i prefer them in Polish) Region=en-US Windows_TTS_Language=409 Windows_TTS_Name=Microsoft David First_station_enter_part_1={0} train to {1}, <break time="0.3s"/> First_station_enter_part_2= via {0} <break time="0.5s"/> First_station_enter_part_3= is arriving on track {0} platform {1}. <break time="0.3s"/> First_station_enter_part_4= Please stand away from the platform edge. <break time="0.3s"/> First_station_enter_part_5= Scheduled departure time {0} . Which train does not have working windscreen washers? i thought they all did, as a feature of SimRail is bugs / flies build up on the windscreen as you are driving, and you need to use the wipers and the washers to clean them off (would be nice to have a keybind for washers, as the wipers has one, but we need to use the mouse to press the washer button) -
EU07 wiper button reacting on W press when walking through the cab.
Gazz292 replied to Dutch's topic in Issues archive
Check your controls assignments in the controls menu, you may have W assigned to both walk forwards and wipers. and this will explain what's happening. You can also check your 'buttons.conf' file, located in the: C:\Users\%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\SimKol\SimRail folder, (The %USERPROFILE% bit 'should' open the folder using your computers username, if not, replace it with what ever name you called your computer) As i have my keybinds / button assignments different to most people, when the new keybinds for headlight dimmer and sander switches were added in the last update, they shared keybinds i was already using, so i had to change them to keys that were not assigned to other things, otherwise i got 2 functions working on the same key press. -
well... a real train driver would stick to the limits, as they are there for safety reasons..... the part of the route in question suffers from mining subsidence, hence the low limits in places. The Polish drivers timetables all have a paragraph on their front cover... it's referring to driving on Sz signals, but the last bit is: Do not be afraid of the consequences of delaying the train. Safety comes first.
-
yeah, i noticed in the .lang files they've gone back to the simple text with no pauses in the sentences too, But driven 2 trains so far on EN1 server (with a server restart in the middle), and not heard a single announcement again š

I think it could be limitations of the game engine for how far a light source can illuminate ahead. but one thing i notice from night time cab ride videos, everything always looks brighter on a camera, the camera will go into low light mode to try and compensate for the overall darkness, but if you notice when the camera looks at the cab gauges, they are really over bright and piercing... they would be painful to look at due to how bright they seem in the video, and if they were that bright in real life, the drivers night vision would be gone every time they looked at the gauges / screens then back out the windscreen. : Digital video does weird things like that, another thing is due to the way the cameras rolling shutter works, you will see the PWM (pulse width modulation) of lights and displays, this makes them appear to flash on and off, digits to seem to flicker, and signal lights appear to slowly flash on and off (and actually flashing signals can appear to flash faster than they really do) This is because the human eye has persistence of vision, so rapidly pulsing light source and multiplexed displays are 'evened out' by our eyes, modern electronics flash lights on and off rapidly to dim them, and multiplexing of displays is a way to use less components and wires, as they can send the data to each part of the display in a sequence, and our eyes won't notice the pulsing of this happening due to persistence of vision, but a camera does... and causes weird effects when the shutter and pulse frequencies do not match. __ Another thing about most cameras, they can see infrared light that our eyes can't, you can prove this easily... put your phone in camera mode and point your TV remove at the lens, press a button and you should see a dull red pulsing... that's the infra red LED sending the coded signal to the TV to do whatever button you are holding down, but you can not see this light with you naked eyes, The camera can as it's sensitive to more light wavelengths than our eyes are (this is assuming your TV's remote is an infrared type, and not a bluetooth one) -
Something for people to try if they use a language other than english or Polish on their computer (after you have added your local language TTS file to windows) RWag64 got French announcements working by copying them into the en.lang file, and modifying the text to include the missing "<break time="0.3s"/>" bits (he's shared the file he made with the modified text on the link above) Then he changed the setting for the SimRail language in the menu to 'Automatic' and he has working station announcements for the first time The de.lang file already has these breaks in the text, so simply copying the text from the de.lang file into the en.lang file should get announcements working in German, But all other languages except Polish do not have these breaks in their text, so i think you will need to modify your local language file to include these breaks in the relevant places to stand a chance of hearing station announcements.
-
Glad you finally got it working RWag64, it's weird how it will only work with the en.lang file, but now i look closer at the fr.lang file and en.lang file, the en.lang file has all the new <breaks> in it, which was added with the last update (a reason not to set files to read only, as you'll never get these updates) But the fr.lang file was using the old method with no <breaks> The de.lang file has the <breaks> in it, so should have worked, but i am wondering if it's that thing i mentioned in my other post, with the original windows language thing is affecting things here... which would explain why using the en.lang file with your local language in it works. Maybe something for a bug report to try and work with the dev's for people who have a computer with windows in a non english or Polish language?

Can we have driver-only servers back?

Last night i pulled into a station in the EP08, and there was an elf on the platform next to me, I could really see that the elfs headlights were way brighter than mine, which is what i'd expect... modern LED / HID lights Vs 50+ year old 'paint bucket' reflectors with halogen bulbs (just imagine how dim the lights would have been with plain old tungsten bulbs from the 60's) But doesn't this show the headlights on the modern train being more like what the original poster wanted? they were comparing a 1960's train headlights with a modern car's headlights. One of the great things about SimRail Vs other train games, there are actual Polish train drivers working on Simrail who drive these trains every day, so they know exactly what it should look and feel like driving these trains, which is way better than a certain other train game which said they use cab ride videos and photographs to make the trains in their game. -
i've seen some people have been printing your pdf timetables out.... maybe you could make up a 'front page' for the pdf timetables (for my timetable front covers i used some random number generators for the requested on, approved by and printed on dates (dates around 2016 fit in with SimRails time period?) then pull the the schedule number from the timetable, and add the train operator name depending on train type) Then people can print them out exactly as the real ones would be printed... landscape on A4 paper with 2 timetable pages per sheet, so they look like this : And they could be displayed nicely on a 10 inch tablet sat in landscape mode too.

It seems this method can only get english language computers to play Polish announcements, I've been trying all day to get French and German announcements playing, and just can't.... BUT i've put everything back to how it was last night when i had working Polish announcements, and i'm getting none at all right now, same when i reset everything, so i should hear the English announcements, Have announcements been turned off on the servers again or something?

gotya... i'm not being an arse, genuinely trying to figure things out.... someone might post something like 'hey, i changed this setting and it makes things a lot easier to read for me' i originally chose 53 degrees so i was closer to the hassler tachograph, as i drive with the HUD off so need to be able to see what speed i'm doing by being able to what number the needle's wavering over (worse in the EP08 as the numbers are smaller to accommodate the higher top speed) __________ it was one of your posts that showed me that i could use my Tobii enabled webcam in my laptop in Simrail, that is a big game changer being able to move the view about just by moving your head / eyes (Tobii - FaceTrackNoIr - TrackIr in SimRail) -
yeah, i read something about there being old and new language files, something about api and sapi ones, Right now i'm getting no station announcements in any language, even the set up that worked last night š so i don't know if the announcements are server specific, and 'crash' after a while or something ... like if you drive just after a server restart there's usually lots of people on the platforms, but those people do not re-spawn very fast, so a few trains later you are down to 5 or 6 people on the platforms, even if you are driving at rush hour when the stations should be packed. Maybe the station announcer gets fed up of repeating himself, and gives up after a while š

Ahhhh. i can see you have your FOV pulled right back, or is that an ultrawide monitor? I set my in cab FOV to 55 degrees (stock is 60 degrees) I prefer to 'sit' closer to the wheel/screen, so it makes everything a little larger for my view, i'm using a 16 inch 16:10 screen. -
Dang, i don't know what's up, but i can only seem to get English and Polish announcements to work š French and German ones do not play, i have the full language packs installed for: 'Windows_TTS_Language=40c, Windows_TTS_Name=Microsoft Julie' and 'Windows_TTS_Language=407, Windows_TTS_Name=Microsoft Hedda' plus a few others : But i just can't get French of German to play the announcements (not tried other languages) my settings.conf first few line is : @v=5 G_MetricSystem=True G_PlayCameraAnimations=True G_CarsLimit=25 G_UserLanguage=Automatic G_UseSystemLanguageCulture=False __________________ What i did to get Polish announcements was to install the Polish language pack / TTS voice in the windows narrator (control + windows key + N' Then copy all the text from the 'pl.lang' file, delete the text in the 'en.lang' file and past the Polish text in it's place, save it then started SimRail. BUT, today i seem not to be getting any announcements in english or Polish again š this is on the EN1 server and EN8 server, the ones i always use.

Are you talking about the hectometer boards, or the W9 / W14 signs here? I find the hectometer boards just about readable until i'm going over 100 km/h, then they seem to jump as if frame skipping, hence i need to zoom in to read them at speed. But this is at 2k on a 16 inch laptop screen, if i ran 4 k on such a small screen then everything would be half the size i see it at, -

Gazz292 replied to sf_giants15's topic in Suggestions for improvements [Multiplayer]
The W9 signs are bloody tiny, but even the hectometer boards are small compared to German ones... BUT this is based on driving German routes in tsw and railworks / train sim classic, where the hectometer boards can be read at 160 km/h with ease... so i dont know if they have been made artificially larger in those sims, I know SimRail is trying to match real life. -

the train in the original post was made ~50 years ago, so has headlights to match. but also, do people know of this setting in the 'settings.conf' file... it's set to 'False' normally. R_ExtraLightsAtNight=True -

Gazz292 replied to sf_giants15's topic in Suggestions for improvements [Multiplayer]
which is why we are on a discussion forum..... So if others have no problems memorising the route, the locations of the speed limit changes, signals etc, why do they need extra lights at night, like a real trains driver, they should be able to turn the lights off and still know where they are along the route. -

Gazz292 replied to sf_giants15's topic in Suggestions for improvements [Multiplayer]
That's why my drivers timetables i am playing with include all speed changes along the line, temporary W14 ones, non line speed permanent W9 ones, and of course the line speed changes. i just find it so much easier to look at my timetable and read that there's say ... a temporary 50km/h limit at 292,800 km, and i'm currently doing 120 km/h at hectometer board 293,700 having just missed the warning sign for the temp limit ahead because i was checking / changing radio channel or something like that. a Real train driver would have their appendix-2 (Dodatek-2) list of permanent speed limits, plus the daily list of temporary limits printout that they would have read before they started the run, plus they'd have learnt the route so know where all speed limits are. But i find it hard to learn the routes (having ADHD doesn't help) so i will always need a list of all speed limits plus station stops if i am to drive with the HUD off. -

Gazz292 replied to sf_giants15's topic in Suggestions for improvements [Multiplayer]
i drive using drivers timetables on my 6 inch e-ink reader, so i need to see the hectometer boards at the side of the tracks to know where i am, and see how far the next station / speed limit is etc, Once i'm doing 120 km/h, i have to zoom right in to read them, as they do not pass the train smoothly (even when i am getting 60+ fps, and my screen is set to 144Hz refresh rate) i only play in 2K resolution on a 16 inch / 40 Cm 16:10 screen tho, and my screen is 48 CM from my eyes (i just measured it) It was even worse when i played in 4k on my 55 inch TV, but that is located about 3 meters from my eyes, -

Gazz292 replied to sf_giants15's topic in Suggestions for improvements [Multiplayer]
i'm no programmer, so i may have this wrong, but i 'think' the distance the headlights reach is based on the LOD's When you drive in the (sunny) daytime, look ahead at the track and you will see the shadows along the tracks rendering ahead, sometimes they move ahead with the train, other times they jump in stages, but they only reach about 50 meters or so Infront of the train, this seems to be the distance the headlight reach at night. If you switch to number 2 camera, and move it so you are looking down on your train from as high above as it'll let you, you will see circles around the train for the different texture draw distances... the closest one is the high detail LOD, this is where you can see the track ahead change from the basic texture of 2 blurry lines to the detailed textures with the sleepers, rail clamps, fishplates (on certain lines), points mechanisms etc, Then there's another ring further out, this is the shadow draw distance, then a little further again a ring where the textures for stuff like the grass disappear. But i 'think' that to increase the distance the headlight illuminate at night would need the LOD's changing, and this comes with a big impact on the performance, i already drop from 60+fps to ~9fps in some areas in SimRail, and this is with a 1 year old gaming laptop with a RTX 3070Ti GPU, 40 gig of DDR5 ram (of which i've seen 25 used by SimRail at times) and a fast SSD.
