  1. how long do you think it takes to wind the wheel round 43 notches in real life? it takes about 3 seconds in SimRail to fast move from notch 42 to zero, using the 'shift' key and the '+' or '-' keys. Part of being a train driver is anticipating the road ahead, you are not driving a car, it can take a couple of kilometers to stop a heavy freight train,
  2. What the fekinhell is this supposed to be? have you joined up just to post something you grabbed off a steam whinge post? 'windshield sale Supplement by a multidude of crushed insect above' WTF??? are you asking for dead flies to build up on the trains windscreen... like already happens in the Sim... and you need to wash them off with the wipers AND washers. As i keep saying.. this is a PLAYTEST, it's a small portion of the full simulator to enable us to report bugs, There's also lot of features turned off for the playtests, so the released simulator will be a lot more than we have seen with the current playtest.
  3. i always question if we as the train driver should be hearing level crossing warblers / sirens / gongs / bells at all unless we were stopped before one when it started it's cycle. usually the sounders stop playing once the barriers are lowered and the crossing secured, they are a warning for the car drivers that the road is about to be closed.
  4. Personally i want to get as far away from the tsw style arcade game scoring as possible, if the dispatcher changes the signal to red 600 meters infront of me, that brake lever is going straight to emergency brake position and staying there until i stop, i'm not going to think 'damn, i don't want to lose points so i'll risk a SPAD by braking gently' 🙂
  5. Loving the track details, with double wooden sleepers under the track joints.
  6. yep i know Zusi, i've been looking for a train driving simulator that is like Zusi for realistic operations, but with modern good graphics, i think i may have found that in SimRail 🙂 I wasted so much time on train sim world last year, that had the pretty graphics, but unfortunately far too much of the stupid stuff, like collectables, medals, trophies, and the damn annoying puns. Like with most of the scenarios where you drive a BR 401, BR 406 etc, they made a stupid pun of the word 'ice' which is the spelling of the word for frozen water in english, But anyone who knows a little German knows it's pronounced 'eeh - tsay - ay' Sounds like 'ee szet eh' in english. Re: the points resetting, over the past 2 or so weeks the points have been stuck on 1 for a while, then they built up... i got to level 8, then they went back to 1, built up again and have been stuck on 1 for a few days now. In the final version the points system would be enabled properly i imagine, and they will properly accumulate on your steam account, as there are things like certain trains that require being over a specific level to drive, and hopefully the signal boxes will have something similar, as some of them are very complex and definitely not suitable for beginners to learn in.
  7. This has been happening the past few days for me, some areas are perfectly fine, but others are like this all around the train. SimRail_log_2022-12-26_19-28-57.txt
  8. <sniff> 😢 i've only done about 1300 Km, i've got a bit of catching up to do 🥸
  9. it's fun figuring this train out i think, i am getting the impression that SimRail will be a very realistic simulation, and we will learn the little quirks and tricks that real drivers of the locomotive use when driving it. it's deffo a lot more fun that just pushing a lever forwards and having a 2000 ton train take off like it's a a local stopper with just 2 carriages on tow,
  10. nothing is broken, this is a PLAYTEST, You get access to a small part of the simulator for free, and in return you report the bugs you find, including your player log for the run in question so the devs can fix things before the full release of the sim. A lot of features are switched off in the playtest, and one of them is point scoring, hence why you can drive any train and work in any signal box (that is available to you in the test) without needing to meet requirements of experience levels to access the box/train. When the full simulator is released i would guess everyone will start at level one, zero km driven. But honestly, if scoring points whilst driving a train is so important, then you'd love train sim world, as they think people want to collect items and get awarded medals for doing things like operating the wipers or reverser handle, or for stopping right at the end of the station with a short train and so on, thats what games do, this is a simulator.
  11. i believe it is, i switch it to freight when i have a freight run, and notice a difference in the way / time it takes for the train brakes come on compared to passenger setting... it could be me imagining it tho.
  12. The EU07 has a few things that should help. First it has a 'Current Setting' switch ... it's one of the 3 rotary switches on the middle of the console, the right most one. It has 2 positions, normally it's in 'Low Power Mode' this is for normal driving, But if you turn that switch to 'High Power Mode' then it allows upto 750 amps instead of 600 to the motors in the serial notches ... i.e. the first 28 power settings, This is switch is be used to help get a heavy freight train going, You need to put the switch back to low power mode before moving into the parallel motor notches... notch 29 upwards... if left in high power mode the motors wont switch to parallel and you'll go no faster. Then there's a rotary switch 'Adjust Forces To Wheel Pressure' i am not sure about that one to be honest, thought it may be something like traction control in a car, you can hear a nice thunk from the electrical room when it's operated, but can't say i've noticed it do anything. There is a green mushroom button to the left of the power wheel called 'Antislipping Brake' You press this when the wheels are slipping, and it rapidly applies some braking force to the loco wheels, much faster than the loco brake lever can apply and release the brakes... so it's sort of a manual ABS system. Others have said, if the trains not rolling back down the gradient, then you haven't fully released the brakes, it takes a while to release all the brakes on a long cargo train, so putting the train brake lever to the fill position can help get them off a little faster (just remember to put the lever back to running, as over time if left in fill it can overcharge the brakes) There's also the 'Brake Releaser' button you an use to help release the brakes fully... a green mushroom button to the right of the power selector rotary switch. As for sanding... i believe this should be operated with one of the foot controls, but they do not move yet, there is a 'Sanding Breaker' with the other breakers below the flap in the desk that battery switch is in... thats on by default tho.
  13. yes i agree, we hear the warning sirens / gongs for a bit too long. I wonder if Polish railways are different to other european ones regarding level crossings. i live within earshot of a uk level crossing, and the siren / warbler only sounds before and during the barriers closing phase. Once the barriers are fully closed, the siren / warbler stops... the warning light continue until the barriers are almost back to normal upright positions after the trains passed. I parked a camper van i used to have near a Swiss level crossing for the Berner Oberland Bahn for a few nights many years ago, and still remember fondly the cow bell like sounds as the barriers were being lowered (tong...tong...tong...tong) But even they only sounded until the barriers had fully lowered, so the crossing was silent as the train passed it. Do the warning sirens / gongs sound constantly in Poland even when the barriers are down and the crossing secured? If they do, is this part of the reason you no longer need to sound the train horn before all crossings, and only ones with the double warning boards?
  14. i did wonder if the EU07 could be remotely controlled by a steuerwagen at the end of the train, i know they could operate 2 loco's next to each other, So i guess it was just a case of run the loco around the coaches and couple up at the other end when they got to the end of the line.
  15. i get that sometimes, when the player idle detection was more aggressive, as soon as it had taken back Ai control, my picture on the map changed to a bot... but still had my details at the bottom of the map, only refreshing the map would get it back showing my picture (avatar) as driving the train. I notice that the dispatchers will be showing a bot when someone is talking over the radio from that signal box... but the map is still a work in progress.
  16. I've had a nose around the files of the simulator, And in the SimRailPlaytest/SimRail_Data/StreamingAssets/Locals/Gui folder on the computer is a set of different language files, they are i believe the on-screen 'tool tips' you get when you hover over say a switch in the cab, and you get a popup that tells you what it's for, and maybe an option to do something... like when you click on the cab door and you can open it, close it, or climb out. i opened the .Lang file in a text editor, and read that there are entries relating to coupling operations: Connect Coupler Connect Brake Hose Disconnect Pneumatic Hose Connect Electrical Host Screw Coupler Scharfenberg coupler..... And so on..... I know coupling functions are disabled in the playtest, so when you get close enough to a coupler for it to glow yellow meaning you can interact with it, clicking on it gets you only on option... 'Close' which closes the tool tip.
  17. Do all speed changes start from when the nose of the loco passes the signal / sign? I know on German and english railways a speed increase only applies when the rear of the whole train has passed the speed change marker / signal, or is fully clear of points if the speed limit was for a junction, but a lower speed applies from the nose of the train.
  18. Now that's a dosto set i would love to drive, probably the same ones the DDR used on their S-bahn lines? If anyone models a set of those double decker coaches, and a repaint to match for the EU07, i'll be first in line to buy hand over my cash.
  19. i was in the EU07 there, thats what i drive almost exclusively. much as i love commuter style driving, as in lots and lots of stations to stop at one after the other, i dont really get on well with the type of controller in the ELF, i find it weird to operate with keyboard keys, so i use the mouse scroll wheel to move the lever in the train, but my fingers protest after a while of doing that. I have a plan to try and replicate the power - brake lever to be a USB plug in controller sometime in the future, but for now drive the trains that only make 2 or 3 stops along it's route. i do wonder what trains ran before the ELF's arrived, and if any of them still run on todays railway, and if the EU07 ever did commuter train work.
  20. i have to say i havent heard it in the EU07 since a good few days ago, Maybe they have put some padding over the drivers seat so he's not hitting his head anymore 🤕
  21. i haven't had SimRail tell me i'm idle since the update the other day (21st was it) so it's 100 times better than it was, this is from the train drivers perspective, i haven't really tried to outsmart it tho, just noticed it's way better than it was originally. Does it detect someone deliberately sat at a green signal not moving, or stopped on the line just hold everyone up? Thank you for being such great devs and working your arses off fixing things for us, please ensure you get a break over xmas tho.
  22. Gorgeous red clouds in the evening, stuck for 48 minutes just outside Będzin due to a broken down train ahead (Really just an AI train stuck) Even the driver in the train next to me was fed up of being held up so long.
  23. wow, it makes you wonder how on earth they managed to keep the railway running back when it was all manual wire pull signals and rod operated points, and bells to tell the signalers about the trains as they went into and out of sections.
  24. i've just figured out im a tit, and i've got it totally wrong, Stronzio was trying to tell me that, but i totally missed the point being made. 😖 This random event i thought i was seeing with dead signals is not what i thought it was. i've just had a re-read of the wikipidea page on Polish train signals : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish_railway_signalling The signals i saw that were 'dead' were Bi-Directional Automatic Block Signals. and the procedure i should have followed was : (Unlit - no aspect displayed) — on a track with bidirectional ABS, only the signals for currently set direction of travel will be illuminated; signals for "the opposite direction" will not be lit. A driver who finds himself approaching an unlit signal must stop the train and alert the dispatcher. So i should have stopped and not gone past the signal, 🤬 i did so as the HUD showed a red signal with the speed of 20km/h after i came to a stop, and i remembered reading that automatic block signals can be passed at 20km/h... BUT they would have shown a red aspect. not be totally blank, that vital bit of info i'd forgotten. I put a message on the text chat about the dead signals, never got any reply, but all the signal boxes in my area were Ai controlled as i pressed TAB to see who to ask about the situation, the last live dispatcher i passed was over 10km behind me. i was also driving with the live map open on a tablet next to my laptop, which confirmed nothing but AI trains and dispatchers around me, I guess i should be glad i didn't run head on into a train that was likely properly signaled onto my line. If this were real life, i imagine my train driving career would be over now. 😭
  25. i'm confused, i thought you meant when completing the scenario, you got no confirmation you had completed it. With the picture, i'm now thinking you mean there's nothing to show that you have already done a particular scenario... which right now is easy as there's only a couple to chose from, But when there are hundereds, then yes something thats distinguishes the already driven scenarios from the undriven ones is needed.
