Hello, I'd like to present a larger community project - SimRail Wikipedia, which we made available to all players of the game, and the public, on March 11. Wikipedia page is primarily maintained by the Czech team SimRail.cz.

 

Wikipedia contains, as of 20.5.2023, over 4709 pages where you can find almost everything about this game.

This site is fully community controlled and all content and information on it is edited by the community. Wiki is open to editing for anyone who registers on the site, can contribute.

Wikipedia currently contains the following translations: Czech, English, German, Polish, Espanol, Chinesse, Russian, Hungarian, French.

Hi,
great work so far, and I am happy to help out with translations to German (and Norwegian, if desired 😉).

But before I start, could you give some introduction (or a link to an appropriate help page) about how to translate pages without destroying the original page (e.g., if I translate from an english page, how do I make sure it will be created a new page, instead of modifying the english one? I understand, german pages should have a prefix "de_", and I have been working with Mediawiki before, but this is a bit dependant on which modules and tools you have included into your wiki setup.

Hello, thank you. We use the Translate module on some pages, but only on the simpler ones, because this module is not one of those that are very user-friendly. Simpler pages are translated using this module as I mentioned and pages that are more complex and contain more text, we use custom pages for each language.

Example: 
CZ version - https://simrail.cz/wiki/index.php?title=cz_Dabrowa_Górnicza_Wschodnia
DE version - https://simrail.cz/wiki/index.php?title=de_Dabrowa_Górnicza_Wschodnia
EN version - https://simrail.cz/wiki/index.php?title=Dabrowa_Górnicza_Wschodnia
It certainly has its disadvantages, but it is the easiest way to ensure that each page has its own translation without breaking another language. At the same time, this method allows each language version to independently edit/add information in a user-friendly editor. In the translation module more complex edits are difficult.

For example, the small stations have a page in English and then it is only translated into languages because there is very small amount of information.

Larger pages related to German and Polish are already prepared and contain the language prefix (de_Slawków, de_Pilichowice,...).


For locomotives, these still link to the English version and a new page must be created (with a prefix and or in your language)
Example:
CZ - https://simrail.cz/wiki/index.php?title=Elektrická_jednotka_EN57
EN - https://simrail.cz/wiki/index.php?title=Electric_unit_EN57

Regarding the question, so as not to break the English version - Copy the text from the English version (in the editor) and create a page in German with, for example, a prefix ( there is a video in the playlist).

at the moment, community is working on translation into French, German and Simplified Chinese.

We are looking for people to help with translation into Polish and possibly other languages.

News from the Wiki update: 
- CZ/EN/CN (simplified) languages are completed
- Completed information about trains that are (and will be) in the game

At the moment the detailed information about the stations and dispatching points is missing on the wiki. 
The wiki is still open to new users who want to contribute with their own contributions.

There are currently over 2,700 pages on wikipedia, which is a very amazing number that we are creating together.

Just a little thing, 

You have https://simrail.cz/wiki/index.php?title=Neutral_Sections_-_Where_to_pull_down_pantograph 

You do not lower the pantograph at a neutral section, you only need to stop drawing motor power, so set the speed control lever / wheel to zero before you go past the We8a sign:

You can apply power again when you pass the We9a sign:

If you are driving a loco hauled train, you can apply power when you see the We9b sign with the L on the top of it:

If you are driving an EMU, you need to wait for the We9a sign without the L on top, which is placed a few hundred meters ahead of the We9b sign... this is because your pantograph is further back than on a locomotive so will still be in the neutral section when your cab passes the We9b sign for locomotives. 

 

A tip to get the power to zero by the time you see the We8a sign is to look for the back of the We9a sign that is for trains running on the tracks in the opposite direction:

These signs will sometimes be located on posts to the side of the tracks, or on the catenary masts.

In Zawiercie these signs are on the exit track 3

Not sure how to add things to the wiki, as i've never done that before.... tried to edit the title for the neutral sections - where to pull down the panto to 'where to turn the motors off' but not sure it worked.

i made a pdf about neutral sections if it's any use:

I've found 2 in-game one at Zawierce track 3 and another in Dąbrowa Górnicza Strzemieszyce track 2

yeah, but do you actually drive on the tracks they apply to? 
i've driven past a track with them on next to mine.

I remember because I passed through them, on Strzemieszyce it's on a platform and on Zawierce maybe too

The one at Dąbrowa Górnicza Strzemieszyce you if you drive a TLK crate from Kw towards Tunel,

Although I don't actually see the point of it at Dąbrowa Górnicza Strzemieszyce as it's only on one line. Normally a lower pantograph instruction is for things like overhead air gaps, but the catenary is continuous at DGS so it doesn't matter if you forget. (I did the first time I drove over that section, as I didn't know it was even there!)

Can't find a Polish one, so have an Ozzy one instead 🤣

Hello, everyone!
Yesterday, there was an update to almost all the images of the stations and stops that were on wikipedia. The newest images will bring a better and higher quality  all the stations that are in the game. Some of the images have an aerial view.

- Minor corrections on the wiki
- Adding new information for the new stations in today's update.
- Detailed information about some stations in the Polish section completely reworked. (not finished)

Hi, because the game update is coming - the wiki pages were updated and all important information was added.

For the future, we plan to edit the station details to provide more information than in the current version.

Hello, we would like to inform you that new articles/information have been added to the wiki, for example regarding DLC, we are progressively updating and improving all the information that is on the wiki to make it as accurate and up to date as possible.

We would appreciate the community's involvement in making updates to our wiki, which we have all been working on for a long time.
