increase range of the high beam light
DazT replied to sf_giants15's topic in Suggestions for improvements [Multiplayer]
Having done several official (and indeed many more unofficial!) cab rides here in the UK, that's pretty much what it's like on the real things of what it's like driving at night, the headlights are to be seen, not to see with (to an extent). A quirk of the UK with most modern trains post about 1985 is you have a day and night setting, the day setting uses the right-hand headlamp (and a marker light on the left) to throw into the distance (so staff working lineside can see trains from further away), using the night setting, the left-hand headlamp becomes the dominate one (with a marker light on the right) and throws light towards the left side of the track (where reflective signs normally are, and so you're not dazzling oncoming trains) As for seeing speed signs (or indeed any signs), that's where route knowledge comes in you should know where all upcoming speeds are in reality without the need to know where the signs are, the exception to this would be temporary and emergency speeds (That's why the notification of ours in the UK flash for emergency speeds to make them stand out, called an Emergency Indicator officially, or a metal mickey/dalek unofficially) -
increase range of the high beam light

Amateur! 🤣 Mine is 16:9 11ft and about 10ft from my eyes (I use a projector) and my second screen for the map which sits in front of me is some crappy old Dell monitor that I've had for about 20 years. -
Didn't do it today, so you've either fixed it or it only happens to dispatchers (was driving at server reset today)
-
For the past couple of days the normal restart occurs at 1505 (1405 UTC), but then the server will kick everyone off again 3 minutes later and restart again, this is also repeated with the 2305 (2205 UTC) restart, and again, 3 minutes later it'll kick everyone and restart again. Can we have driver-only servers back?
DazT replied to StefanK's topic in Suggestions for improvements [Multiplayer]
On the chatter front, I am perhaps guilty of this myself late at night and even then that's only rare very occasions, otherwise I'm silent either as a dispatcher or a driver! The only time I'll usually speak as a driver now is when I'm royally p**sed off! It's got that bad with a select few when they are dispatchers that I've now got a list of names going. Yes it's fun the first time to be routed by some obscure route, but when you're doing the whole run of the line and several people try it on with you it gets a bit much. -
@Gazz292 Ballast at the box window was a regular, luckily where I was it had grills over the windows!
-
@Gazz292 Once had someone jump on front of my buffer beam at Zawiercie just before departure on a TLK crate, I just opened the taps and floored it! Once it's been done once to you, the first time it's hilarious, second time and beyond it just tends to get on your tits more than anything. Still not seen that player I had at Dabrowa Gornicza once who stood in the 4 foot when I then proceeded to throw the anchor out of the window 🤣
-
<SarcasmModeOn> I think it's a good idea @Gazz292 as after the day I've had so far some people certainly can't signal for <insert appropriate expletive>. I'd demote them from the box to toilet attendant, but then again, they'd probably <insert appropriate expletive> that up! <SarcasmModeOff> 4 times today I've been <insert appropriate expletive> over all on EC trains, this morning routed via the loop at Gora for no reason whatsoever, then on the same train routed into the middle road at Opocozno Poludnie, luckily knew straight away and refused to take the signal. That situation was rectified by a kind driver on the south EC who left his train, manned the box and took the erroneous (I still think it was malicious) signal back. Had a few hours break in Warsaw, to then be routed via the loop at Idzikowice and held on a red "until time" for no reason, erm, that time only works if I was going through at 120kph, not from a standing start and then maliciously routed again at Opoczno Poludnie onto the middle road, luckily the server reset. The two OP ones I suspect both were foul play as both times it dropped back to AI, by which time the damage is done. I've got very good now at saying "Arrows, Circle, Stripes" out loud to myself approaching stations, as that's order of the plates/markings on the signals for where you might be wrong routed. If I've got a green at "Arrow", and definitely a green at "Circle" (Last ABS) where I should be getting a restrictive aspect, on goes the brake!

When you do, you can tell me what's in them! 🤣

Sometimes left line running is impossible depending on where you are without tickling stuff in the other direction. I did try it once in the CMK and it was a disaster!

@Devex_TMS_UK Read 5 posts back 🤣👆🏻

Pass, I don't drive (would you really want me on the road?! 🤣)

I get the idea doing incidents, and it's good that we're given the freedom to be able to do them, it's certainly nothing new as I used to do those in my SimSig multiplayer days well over a decade ago, but that was usually limited to a simple track circuit failure, a signal failure here and there, but it wasn't on every single workstation screen. I think the general consensus of the thread seems to be - so long as it's only in a few places then it's okay, but with 19 controllable dispatcher posts, I'd say anymore than 2 posts in a row or near to each other with 'incidents' then it starts to come a bit intolerable (and in most cases, unrealistic). If anything, just running the trains for a few hours and there's already disruption anyway of late trains cause by misregulation from different parts of the sim having knock on effects elsewhere. You'll find the most interesting time is just before server reset time where stuff has built up and had knock on to other trains for hours. The timetable usually doesn't take long to all go out of sync on its own anyway; inattentional blindness, driver taking too long to accelerate/overbraking, simple things such as not being put on a higher speed line where it's available, using a lower speed line just be "you can", using a 40kph set of points instead of the 100kph set (Zawiercie from Gora!), Sosnowiec Południowy is also another regular classic where people will run you via the side track at 30kph instead of using a free platform line which is 40kph, the AI not clearing signals until you're on top of the signal (I'm looking at you Lazy La and Lazy Lb!) those seconds lost all add up eventually! But do you know what, that's what sets SimRail up as being different from the competition on the market, the human element, we're all human, we all make mistakes.

One thing I'd like clarifying for when it does get fixed, is are you meant to still sound the horn at 3am? Here in the UK between midnight and 6am you don't (Quote from the UK Rule Book below), I'd be very surprised if Polish rules aren't similar. If it's the case that you don't between certain hours as here in the UK, then that should also be reflected in the simulation also.

As they say in life "It's the quiet ones you've got to watch", the same can be true for signalling panels. From experience I can tell you the worse panel for anything creep up on you and suddenly become very busy and things to go wrong on is the quiet ones because you go onto to them initially with the mindset of its normally sedate pace, then something suddenly kicks off and it's like Clapham Junction!
-
"You can't park there mate" 🤣
-
"hey, this kind of thing happens all the time on real railways" And I can say from a professional viewpoint (being an actual signaller in the UK) that it doesn't, weeks can go by without any major incidents, and then other times the sh*t just seems to follow me around the rotation of workstations. I can't even remember the last time I had an axle counter failure, the overheads coming down etc etc and I can only count a single fatality whilst I've been on the workstation, once in 17 years. The majority of the time it's repetitive monotonous boredom truth be told.
-
Think my biggest gripe with EN1 (not all the time) not so much with RP (it's rare) but it's more with new dispatchers appearing on the server having never read the manual and then standing you on a red for ages (it's rife at Dabrowa Gornicza with those crossings and newbies not knowing how to operate them, despite it being in the manual) It's then even more infuriating when they then drop off and it goes back to AI signalling and the crossings if by magic lower and the signal clears. Maybe it's just me, but when a new panel or workstation comes online I go and hide on EN9, out of the way of everybody until I feel confident and competent to operate it without spoiling people's enjoyment on "the" Server EN1.

Perfect, thank you, that answers my question. Just a shame a select few ruined it for the majority.

@uetam As I can't reply directly to where this was posted, what are the measurements/metrics for being classed as 'inactive' or are you not at liberty to say to avoid some of the tech savvy people knowing how to circumnavigate it. I'm only asking as, for example, if I'm on a workstation/panel where I have a white timetable period (ie, no trains on the panel/and no trains approaching for X minutes) for a substantial amount of time and I use that white period to go and make a drink, use the toilet etc, etc, am I going to be seen as 'inactive' even if I don't have any trains??

Next dispatcher station (week 11+)?
DazT replied to Skully's topic in General Discussion [Multiplayer]
"Good things come to those who wait" -
We've all done it, normally for me it's the main breaker switch! Whoever thought having a transparent chat box was a good idea that you can operate stuff behind/through needs a talking to! I still think that chat box needs moving (or allow us to move it!) to the top left out of the way. If anything it's the only reason why I dug out an old mic for use in the game for when I'm driving, so I'm not hitting buttons I shouldn't be, but also so that I can acknowledge the SHP/CA alerts without the brakes kicking in and it then nicely docks me 50 points!
-
It already does, but it's hit and miss as to when it actually does! Or do you mean as a dispatcher??? Me about to overtake a late freight between Dorota and Juliusz, truly in AI controlled land, I only took a photo because I didn't believe it myself, normally the AI at Dorota will leave you sat on a red for 10 minutes!

Without seeing a picture of the brakes gauges it's impossible to say, but sounds like the compressor had tripped out at some point and there wasn't enough pressure in the main res tanks to recharge the brakes to their off position (4.5 bar)
