Dispatchers stopping trains for being early

Recommended Posts

I’m just saying what I’ve learnt about the real German network. Maybe different countries have different practices there?

I guess you’ve got a point about communication. If both drivers call dispatchers to tell them they’re driving slower, and dispatchers call drivers to tell them about faster trains behind them, then these kinds of issues can be resolved without putting the burden on only one of the parties.

I have witnessed this as well with an express, running a few mins early and being stopped at a red from vmax with nothing else around and getting the signal at the passing time, presume the dispatcher was bored.

No, a dispatcher should assume that I (try to) keep to my timetable.

If I'm being the dispatcher I won't assume you're trying to stick to the timetable. Instead, I will assume that you have some kind of difficulties. I will then contact you to ask the situation and maybe ask you to speed up.

If you're early and you have a stop at my station I personally think that it's better to just arrive early so that I can put you in a track and clears the main line.

Well yea of course. Each country has their own operating procedures.
