Hank the Cow dog Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago Hello all, I'm doing the steam cargo tutorial in the 1980s, and still very much learning my way around the locomotive, I chose the Hard start and rainy weather, and i was making good progress down the line, but I noticed ran out of water in the tender, or at least i assumed i did, becuase my boiler ran dry and i had all my injectors running. so my question, is it possible to check the water level in the tender? and is it possible to take on water/coal at stations?
jeroezie Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Unfortunately it is not possible to refill water or coal. Maybe as a workaround, it is possible to swap locomotives to a newly spawned one?

Switch between cameras with deault keys 4 and 5, one of them is put in the tender so you can see, if there is still some water left. 16 godzin temu, Hank the Cow dog napisał(a): and is it possible to take on water/coal at stations? Not yet, maybe in future, however... 16 godzin temu, Hank the Cow dog napisał(a): I noticed ran out of water in the tender, ...It is nearly impossible to run of water or coal in tender, as you have 30 000 liters of water and 10 000 kg of coal in it. Both injectors (15 000 + 10 500 l/h) running would need about 1h10 min to push all of it to the boiler. But the steam engine working at full nominal power uses only about 11 000 kg of steam per hour. And I think that the limit od steam consumption by the engine with full fill and full speed is around 20 000 kg of steam per hour (due to high losses in steam pipes and valves). I suppose that the boiler maximal capacity is production of steam around 13-15 000 kg/h. What corresponds to 4 000 kh of coal per hour (at this power it has very poor efficiency). As you can see, the tender should have enough supplies for several hours of journey, especially when you apply correct timetable speed limits and take advantege of ups and downs of lines, especially LK62 in 80s version. I know that several people finished Kraków-Warszawa IC scenario using Ty2, so you can see, it is not an urgent feature. 17 godzin temu, Hank the Cow dog napisał(a): or at least i assumed i did, becuase my boiler ran dry and i had all my injectors running. Regarding your question, the bar on the right shows water level in a boiler. However, if you let the water level to drop to low, you can trigger fusible plugs, which cause a lot of steam flowing out of boiler to prevent boiler explosion. You can hear them as another loud hiss. Then it is nearly impossible to build up the water level and the pressure to correct values.
