Hi, An issue with the Live Map, rather than the game. In the last few days it has been the case that once you've interacted with the server selection buttons, an overlay div covers the map section and makes it inoperable, so you can't move around the map or zoom in. On initial load everything works normally. Just after pressing a server button the problem occurs. Thanks, Oliver

Option to disable aspect color
Thistle Whistle replied to Skully's topic in Suggestions for improvements
Indeed I did misunderstand. The flashing amber is, as you say, a distant warning of the speed restriction (either 40 or 60), but the following signal will tell you which one it is, so assuming you've got your speed down to around 60 - 50, then you'll be prepared to settle at the correct speed when the signal comes into view. There's not a huge difference between 40 and 60km/h. I think the 40 sections are more likely to be around stations/urban areas, and the 60 sections on the more rural areas, although that's a generalisation which is probably only partially true. -
In the summer (which is when the server is set) sunrise is as early as 4:14am. Twilight starts about an hour before that, so this will be fairly accurate.

Cool things you have noticed in SimRail

I'll certainly be ready to hit the screenshot button when I next hear it, to mark the location, although I must say I haven't had it happen for a while, now. 😊 -
Interesting question! According to the page linked below, they are Restricted Braking Distance indicators. Presumably to signify a specific braking distance, but I don't know the details. Could they be related to the pedestrian crossing at the end of the station platform to help prevent overshoots or perhaps something to do with the short signal block, maybe? It looks like there is also a 3rd sign in this category which is specific to freight trains. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be along to help soon! Marked W19 and W20 in the image... http://pkprepo.net/railway-signs-of-polish-railways/

Option to disable aspect color

I would consider the distance to next signal info a simulation of route knowledge. So having an option for just that info is a good bridging step between full HUD (distance and aspect) and no HUD for when you eventually have a good feel for the route. I may be misunderstanding your comment, but there are signal aspects for Vmax, 100km/h, 60km/h, 40km/h, so all the info is there for running without the advance aspect HUD or speed limit warnings. Maybe a further option for with/without advance speed limits would also be desirable for some. -
Selected speed is on right screen along with selected effort.

Loops at large to medium stations.

If we're only talking temporary solutions, despawn would be the simplest. Wave a magic wand to take out the troublesome train to get things moving again. -
I think it's for bumpy points, but just glitched. I have had it over points, but I've had it when stationary, too, and obviously in the signal box either makes it weirder, or more glitched. I think it's just a light hearted little addition included to raise a smile. Maybe it would wear thin over time, but it's such a short bit of audio and happens fairly infrequently that they've probably judged it about right. But the other theories are interesting, so I'd love to know what it's about.

EU07 tutorial has a schedule you just can't follow
Thistle Whistle replied to Krtek-JC's topic in Singleplayer mode
For all the info you need on Polish signalling, read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish_railway_signalling It's very interesting and will increase enjoyment, immersion and feeling of accomplishment. In particular, read section Subsidiary Signal. I wouldn't worry too much about points. It's not always going to go according to plan. And in the tutorial, it doesn't go to plan. -
Neutral Sections
Thistle Whistle replied to Allah macht frei's topic in Suggestions for improvements
I agree, chaps. If it's all optional, then no harm in adding these extra hints on the HUD, just please don't inflict it on everyone or else it's going to end up playing Turbo Outrun. 😅 But the SimRail route is so well designed that route learning is a very natural process so you'll soon learn where the Neutral Sections are - and you do get a warning sign. Although, even Train Simulator doesn't have anything in the HUD for neutral sections... It's not game breaking if you fail to do the procedure, although it usually requires some kind of reset of the loco. But you learn this stuff, that's supposed to be the fun, isn't it? 😁 -

Also had been meaning to ask about Neutral Sections. Would definitely like to see them 'functional'. 👍 Please no on screen countdown's though. There's signage for a reason. -

😂 That's class. Well I'm glad I'm not the only one! I mean, I THINK it's an 'ooh!' Maybe I'm wrong. 🤷 I'm guessing it's just a little joke, but it's a great idea. -

Well here's a question for you... and I can't believe nobody has mentioned it yet (unless I've missed it), but have you heard the bang and an 'ooh'? I think it's supposed to happen occasionally went you go over a bumpy switch at speed. There's a bang then a man's voice that goes 'ooh!' in a slightly comedic way. But I think it is a little glitched as it can happen randomly, even when stationary. I can't believe I'm the only one who's heard it, but I've asked on the servers and nobody has a clue what I'm talking about. So please someone tell me I'm not going mad. But I think it's a really cool feature. Just a nice light hearted touch to make you smile while you're driving, and if it's all as intended, then well done SimRail Team! Spot on. 👏 -

Yes, it's a very nice touch and appreciated when running late. Just how it should be. -
Small QoL suggestion for Train Drivers
Thistle Whistle replied to SafeShows's topic in Suggestions for improvements
Use the signals as intended and enjoy the experience. No need to treat the rails as a racetrack as all it means is you get to your stops quicker and your wait times are longer. -
That will indeed be a very nice feature! I'm sure a while back I found a link to a Google Map with the route overlaid, but I can't remember where it was posted or who posted it! So if anyone knows feel free to enlighten us. 😊

Disable fading of HUD elements
Thistle Whistle replied to jleymann's topic in Suggestions for improvements
+1 Was thinking of requesting this so pleased to see others thinking the same. If you run without the HUD it makes a quick glance slightly frustrating because you also need to wait for the fade to end before you can switch state again. I'd rather concentrate on the driving instead of the HUD fade. 😊 -
I've found driving at night a very pleasurable experience. The servers appear to be in summertime so it doesn't get fully dark until very late, around 11pm / midnight. It wasn't pitch black (quite far from it actually) and maybe it gets a bit darker even beyond midnight. The light from trackside/station lighting is beautiful. As you pass towns/villages there are lots of lights on in the buildings, plus car lights. Would be nice if moonlight is variable/dependant on weather. Light nights are a thing, but so are dark. Currently there are some oddities with reflections on the cab windows, but they are documented and hopefully will be remedied. Try some of the servers with a time offset to get some night time driving.

Er, afraid not. Think you need reading lessons. I use Initial for probably about 90% of my braking and increase if I need more. I don't think your stop accuracy is going to be very good if you only ever use Full, especially in a freight train. Anyway, you do you and keep up the snide comments. Indeed. I hadn't actually explored the mouse option fully. I'd assumed that as soon as you go a fraction beyond Initial the popup says Full Application so I thought that was what it was doing and just gave up on it, but there is indeed a graduated area so there is fine control there, but just not on keyboard (at least without moderating). So armed with that I've been using the mouse when more control is desirable. Just need to bring it to keyboard.

There seems to be conflicting opinions on whether or not there should be a lapped position. I'm not in a position of knowledge, so can't comment. As you mention there are gauges in the cab which tell you where your brakes are. But you said you don't want to look down at your brake lever, so I guess you won't want to look at the gauges either. But you'd be happy to look down at a tickertape message? TSW is arcade in comparison to SimRail and Run8. I've wasted enough money on it to know. Terrible sounds, terrible lighting, now terrible dynamic weather, terrible night time, terrible route design, tiny routes. What's not to like. 😅 DTG just go about things the wrong way. Run8 is a lot of fun. Train Driver 2 is fun if you can get over the language barrier. There's a lot of people out there that don't like TSW and want something more sim oriented and SimRail appears to be filling that gap. We don't need to morph it into TSW - we've got TSW for that.
