Bringing some Derail Valley features to SimRail (manual tasks)

Recommended Posts

I am not sure if you have any DV players here but, DV is another extremely well done train simulator which took things from a diffrent angle. The experience in that title allows us to manually operate couplers and air hoses individually. So there is no such thing as automatic coupling unless it may exist in reality. There always will be instances for the driver to take the assinged locomotive from the shed to the wagon consist where you will also "grab" and connect hoses and coupleing and tighting it up. As the dispacher is incharge of handleing the rest of the operation. Manual tasks make a train simulator very intresting. What do you guys think?

the stuff for operating the couplers is already present in SimRail... get out your train and stand by the buffers, when you get close enough you can see the coupler and hoses / electrical jumpers are highlighted and an option box pops up... i believe in SP you can actually uncouple waggons already, in MP this is turned off for now so your only options is 'cancel'

Shunting and other things are planned for SimRail,

automatic coupling has existed for decades (if not a centaury) thats the common thing for EMU's, DMU's etc, the scharfenberg coupler being just one type of automatic coupling that connects the air and electrical connections when it's pushed together to couple (hence the buttons in the cabs of these trains to 'un-couple'

As for manual tasks, if the train driver does something in reality, then yes it should be simulated, as SimRail is a simulator as opposed to a game, but if the real life Polish train driver of say an ECE train does not couple or de-couple his loco, then it shouldn't be added just to 'compete with another train game'

It realy is a centaury. That´s a thing the americans did really early. They even had "automatic" couplers on freight trains very early. I don´t know if it´s just a nerrow gauge thing or if they did/do and standard gauge too. That´s a thing i learned from watching Railroads Online videos mad by Hyce and kAN Gaming. ^^

Only the coupling was automatic, the crew still has to put the air or vacuum hoses together.
