Flickering with AMD FSR and TAA

Recommended Posts

I did not notice that I posted it in the wrong section. It was supposed to be in "Bug reporting [Singleplayer]".

Latest patch change log -> "improved TAA antialiasign "

Tried it but the results are the same.

Looking at some examples done with Unity, the issue is, in a way, "normal".

Yes, there is flickering, but it's only visible when there is absolute no movement. Considering you are in a train, moving most of the time, I don't think this is really that big of a deal. If it is, you can just use another form of AA or a downscaled super resolution.

downscaled super resolution

@TheShotte Do you know how to force super resolution in SimRail? My card is RX5700 XT, screen native resolution is 1920x1080, and I would like to try SimRail to run in 1440p and then downscale to 1080 to check if I get better AA results and how much it hits the performance.

Already done.

At 1440p there are no differences, in framerate, between native + SMAA and FSR best quality (TAA).

I started playing games when one could have counted each pixel in a 2D sprite even in movement 😄.

I'm sure the DEVs we'll find a way to mitigate it.

Open up your AMD Control Panel, go to Settings > Display and enable Virtual Super Resolution.

What this option does is let you set higher resolutions than your monitor can support in video games, which is then scaled down to fit your actual screen. It's a good way to get some nice AA in titles that don't do it well. Say your display's native resolution is 1080p, what you do is you enable VSR, and you set the game to render at 2560x1440 (2k), and basically either disable AA or leave it on some miniscule setting, maybe SMAA or something. If you have the hardware, this is probably one of the best looking solutions to the TAA issue.
