Unable to return to signalbox (too far away?)

Hello,
I don't know if this counts as a bug or not but...
Out of curiosity, I left my signal box today for a stroll down the line... (30 minutes between trains, had plenty of time!) 😇
I found out that I was not able to return to the box by pressing "1" when I was to fram from my assigned signal box. I suppose there is a distance limit?
