How do Polish drivers deal with when to accelerate to a higher speed limit (without the HUD)

I just did a 2 hour freight run in the E186 towards Sedziszow, and I really missed having a train length counter, or a zuglängenzähler which is what it's called in Germany I think.

Typical use: When you pass a speed sign, you double tap the power handle, and when the end of your train passes the speed sign, a sound is made in the cab letting you know it's ok to accelerate.

So my question is, how do Polish drivers deal with when to accelerate to a higher speed limit when the train is really long?

Are the methods different from the EU07 to the E186?

As far as I know the Traxx 186 has a length counter, not sure if it is active in Poland. Certainly is not active in the game (Or at least not that I know).
The EU07 is and old loco so you have to go back to the good old counting system, a driver knows how long his train is and then starts counting hectometre or kilometer points untill he has the right amount for his train length. .I assume in Poland they do that as well.

Usually the driver knows what is the length of the train (something that you don't get in SimRail). Although, you can work it out. Below you can find lengths of all locos and wagons in the game:

Locos and EMUs:

• EU07 is 15.92m long 
• ET25 is 20.34m long
• E186 TRAXX is 18.9m long
• ED250 Pendolino is 187.4m long
• EN76 (4 section) is 75.5m long
• EN96 (2 section) is 42.65m long

 

Wagons:

• Eaos (Coal hopper) is 14.04m long 
• Res424Z (Platform (blue and brown)) is 19.9m long
• B10ou (Green 2nd class passenger wagon) is 24.5m long
• Adnu (Red 1st class passenger wagon) is 24.5m long 
• A9mnouz (1st class IC wagon) is 26.4m long
• WRmnouz (Restaurant IC wagon) is 26.4m long
• B11bmnouz (2nd class IC wagon) is 26.4m long
• Uacs (Powdered goods wagon) is 14.04m long

If you know the total length of your train then just observe milepost markers and count the distance since you passed increased speed limit. You can also count catenary posts (they are usually spaced around 50m apart)

Thanks guys, maybe a train counter will be implemented in the E186? I hope there will be more info shown about the consists we drive in future updates of SimRail. Thanks for sharing that list. 🙂

I did a quick sample on train lengths for TCE, TLE, TME departing Katowice Muchowiec Staszic in early access build 21/01/2023. For each of TCE, TLE, TME the pattern seems to be 1 consist variation per loco type EU07, E186, ET25. Keep in mind, the sample size was only 2 on each 😉

The columns are loco/wagon, count, and length:

Edit: I did 1 test on a Warsaw bound TME TRAXX, and it was consistent with above data
