andrei105 Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 From my point of view, the ability board trains driven by the AI or other people would be a nice addition. It would be nice to travel along with other friends in the cab and/or in the carriages of the same train, driven by one of them, or by the AI. That would probably include us to be able to join a server without being assigned a train; just select a station to spawn in, walk around and board the trains that are running around and travel, like some kind of on-foot free roam. A further improvement from this would be if we could be able to also take over and drive the trains that are driven by the AI or even other people (only while stopped and only if they approve). All these ideas may also be applicable to the single player mode. Train Sim World already does something similar to this idea, but in single player mode only, as that game has no multi player mode. 1 2 12
Jason35 Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 (edited) That's basically a passenger mode, and they said it was not plan iirc Edited January 16, 2023 by Jason35 1
Lactic Posted January 15, 2023 Posted January 15, 2023 I agree to this feature that would be nice. A nice mix between coop and passenger 🙂
Dignité Posted January 15, 2023 Posted January 15, 2023 I kinda disagree. Adding a "On foot" start at a depot to take your train or being a foot agent at a dispatcher post to help trains setting up, ok. But being a "passenger" is kinda pointless in my opinion, it's even a waste of devs time for me, there's so much to do before even thinking of a passenger mod. But, adding more "on foot" gameplay why not, as long as it stays in the train operator logic. Take your service in depot on foot before going to your train or helping train conductors going to their trains, do the coupling, brake tests etc is a good example 2 1 4
BRD193 Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 I agree with this feature wish. I think sometimes I would be happy to just free roam on the map to do some virtual train spotting. Sometimes you kinda just want to chill instead of being the one in charge to drive a locomotive or be a dispatcher. 4

Some people, including me, don't always wanna drive a train or sit in a signal box. Sometimes we want to spot trains, or sit in the train or signalbox of our friends. Also, it is not really much of a big work. I mean, they just need to add that mode, the abillity to walk we already have when you exit the train or the signal box.

Last time I checked, doors on trains other than your own couldn't be opened, and while you could enter a signal box and even see the dispatcher, screens would remain dark and a relay interlocking console would not be rendered at all.
Quacking Duck Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago According to the old forum post linked below, the ability to open the doors of other players' trains once existed, but was removed due to abuse. Perhaps a new version of this feature could require the approval of the player controlling the train before another player is allowed to open doors or to board. I am interested in something resembling the proposed feature because I have been trying to teach my real-life friends to play SimRail over the past few months. Currently, this is accomplished by attaching two mice to the same computer. It would be very convenient if two people, each running a copy of the game and connected to the same multiplayer server, could sit together in the cab of the same train and operate that train's controls together. 1

That sounds awesome. Doesn't even need to be an MMO server – an ad-hoc two-player session with a singleplayer scenario could do the same (though I'm unsure whether that would be harder or easier to implement and maintain).
