Thunderstorm weather is excessive in a nigh unplayable way

Played the new REG 11521 scenario with thunderstorm weather, the lightning effect is way too excessive. Not necessarily in frequency, but especially so in brightness. And the effect stays on my screen until I look around the cab. I play with all graphics settings on lowest possible. There is no way this effect has to be this strong and resource intensive.

It's so blinding that I overran a stop, and the reversing seemingly broke the scenario, as I never could get a clear signal at Skierniewice P PZS*. Logs included if you want to check on that.
