Right now, you're choosing a service when choosing a train. But, as we know in the real train world, you're affected to a service, a "day" or shift. So, what would be great is to manage the game not speaking with "trains" but with depots.

What could it add

- Getting locomotive out of "sleep" on a storage track (even in depot?), manoever it toward the train and drive it, then leave the loco if the train goes further or, manoever the loco to get it on the other train.

- Having shunting shifts, getting the passengers and freight cars ready and on platforms to get trains ready.

- IA taking over is still logical and will not break anything.

- Players will not be stuck in a service, at the end of the travel, they are not "kicked out" of the game, they're still in game as person and wait for their next train.

And there's a lot of possibilities by doing this ! If you have other ideas in relation with this proposition, please say it, can't wait to debate about it and hear more of your thougts about it !

I agree with everything. I would welcome being able to put a second person on the locomotive. He would logically have to join as an observer. Occasionally there is a pest and this could be solved by allowing only the owner to open the locomotive door. Plus I could use this person for the aforementioned train stacking.

i guess something like shunting shifts are coming because the option as dispatcher to set shunting routes to a depot is allready in the system dont let you do this right now i test it yesterday at psary 🙂

The question is what that actually mean, practically.

Could also be the "shunting operation" of the dispatcher, setting dispatching routes which was previously removed. So I'll keep my hopes to a lower level until I know what it entails 🙂

I do hope it will have shunting operation in multiplayer eventually, where a player can drive a shunting locomotive (f.ex SM42) to do shunting movements on the yards to get train sets together but I think such be far into the future if ever implemented.

I think it might be more towards the reimplementation of shubt routing for dispatch than actual driving since right now we do not as far as I know have any diesel locomotive in the sim.

Biggest issue with shunting in MP is AI (and incompetent players). Right now we can't "talk" with AI trains which is basically necessary to do shunting. Simple commands like "couple/decouple", "go forward", "reverse", "stop" or "pass W5 sign". Last one is the main reason why manoeuvrers has been locked in MP. Because AI can stuck on crossing if we can't command it to pass this sign or simple go back.

like you say it what we need is a way to contact the train that need to shunt when its a player via extra chat window and when its a AI like the comunication with the other dispatchers orders like : 64xxxx from here you drive as shunting drive " signals for that train then not the regular ones but the small ones are importent then for the trains
