The SimRail menu UI has been a bit of a thorn in my side for quite some time. It’s honestly embarrassing how outdated and inconsistent the whole interface feels, especially considering it’s the first thing you see when you start the game.

Yesterday I randomly found some sketches I did last year where I tried to imagine a cleaner UI layout and some simple improvements to see how the menu could look if a bit more effort was put into basic design principles. I’m attaching my mockups for the Main Menu and Settings alongside the original screens for comparison.

The difference is pretty obvious. When you put them side by side, the issues and room for improvement become clear. Some elements just look like they were thrown together in 10 minutes.

This is the kind of thing that makes a game feel unfinished. The menu is the first thing players see and if that first impression is messy and amateurish, it sets the tone for the whole experience. People will notice it even if they don’t realize they do.

I’m not trying to be dramatic about this but the UI needs a redesign in my opinion. This could just be a small update, but would make the game feel more polished and professional.

The start screen I like your concept for but ofc would have to be tweaked more. The settings tho look worse too me making it wider seems just annoying to me, its easier to look up and down whilst tracking a slider and looking at the value.
